They may be scratched or dented, but you can save some serious cash this way while still getting an excellent quality appliance.

Almost 30 percent of those shopping for major appliances have looked for buying advice and reviews on Lowes, Home Depot or Best Buy websites before making their purchase. Of these shoppers, 75 percent found it helpful. Close to 80 percent phoned the retailer and more than half who e-mailed for information considered it worth their while.

Holiday weekends and the end of the month always tend to be good times for new appliances like washers, dryers, an air conditioner, or a new refrigerator. But it might take some negotiating to get the price down.

We also recommend you prepare for your purchase in advance. Start by finding out the exact appliances you might need, draw up a budget plan, and then do your research and find the best appliances that fit your budget.

Of course, if time is of the essence, you should purchase your appliance when you need it. The wait for ordering appliances does tend to be longer than other products you may order, so you should order any specific appliances you need as soon as possible.
