5. Endure And Survive Fix
Joel not wanting to kill the sniper showcased that he's still haunted by his time during those 20 years after the world fell. Had he allowed the man to survive, it could have helped or hindered him down the line.
5. Endure and Survive
The four make their way through the tunnels unbothered, hitting a location game players will recognize, the abandoned survivor settlement preschool where Sam finds another Easter Egg: a Savage Starlight comic. Endure and survive.
The perfect box that Henry was trying to build for he and Sam was broken. There was no one left for Henry to protect, and no more reason to survive. But with each day that goes by, the box that Joel is building for he and Ellie gets a little stronger, and a little more complete. The remaining four episodes of this first season will surely be spent showing Joel continue his complete transformation from surviving to living. And allowing himself to feel something again after all that he lost 20 years ago.
Covered by Joel with the Sniper rifle, Ellie tries to survive the chaos. She jumps through a car window, hoping to find safety. No, no, no, no, no, no, no. We have creepy kid clickers now? Creepy little kids give me nightmares! This one follows Ellie into the car and almost catches her before she exits and locks it inside.
For a few brief moments, Mazin and Druckmann both expanded the emotional significance of these collectibles for players and gave Ellie a glimmer of joy in the dark. "Endure and survive" is all anyone can aim for in The Last of Us, but for the most part, it doesn't work out.
However, it doesn't veer too much from what occurs in the game, and it's part of the reason why the show is a hit among critics and fans of the original source material. While both The Last of Us video games have had their fair share of criticisms, letting Henry survive would've hampered Joel and Ellie's character development while also dissatisfying fans of the game in the process. The impact is even more emotional when the following scenes show Joel and Ellie burying them before moving on to find Tommy (Gabriel Luna). Most changes from the original game have been an improvement for HBO's adaptation, but in the case of The Last of Us episode 5, sticking to the game's story was clearly the right choice. 041b061a72
